...or rather, FORMER homeowners, as Turbine decided to clean things up in preparation for Housing 2.0 and foreclosed on any slackers not up on their rent payments (including myself, apparently, as I now have a load of furniture from some kinhouse Suka and I forgot about... can I interest you in some gently pre-owned trophies from Moria?) :-/ So, if you now find yourself in the market for some Middle Earth real estate and a hobbit-hole of your very own, I'd like to suggest the Elmnook neighborhood of The Shire, which currently houses a few classy tenants from TLA, and features the TLA Shire Pub for all your local kinhouse needs. Those who prefer above-ground living with sharply-rectangular doors and windows may be interested in the Ramsward neighborhood of Breeland Homesteads, centered on the TLA Kinhouse, but you will be stuck with having Old Man Havoc for a neighbor! These properties are really moving, so buy now while you have the chance! ...and we'll even let you pay your entire rent up to six months in advance for those prolonged AFK vacations! Buy NOW!  ;D

Been awhile since I've done any major changes to the backbone of the website, but this past week I finally outgrew shared hosting and had to make the leap to virtual private server. Major information shock for me; had to teach myself Linux, Apache, Postfix, Proftpd, and a whole lot about the back end of domain management. And it cost a whole lot more to have a VPS than shared hosting - although I did get a good deal on the first year at least. The site should run a good deal faster, especially during peak US times, since its on dedicated resources instead of sharing with a million other websites.

In any case, the website is now running on a fully customized server and managed entirely by me now, and since I just jumped into the deep end without a lifeguard on duty, there may be hiccups. Let me know if you find any issues.

Oh, and I cleaned up the database. There were session cookies from 2008 in there so in order to clean things up I purged the entire thing. Everyone may have to log out and back in to get things back up to speed. You might also need to delete any cookies stored for the site. Sorry for that inconvenience, but the upside is the database is slimmer and faster now.

I was in the beta and enjoyed a lot of it.  What I didn't like was how the controls were handled.  When I turn left, I want to turn left.  Not spin in place.

Anyone playing it? It's free to play and open beta (which PerfectWorld is using as a head start - no character wipes) starts today.

I played all the way to the endgame.  Fantastic all the way getting there (solo mostly).  I'm in the middle of writing a Mod for another game, then will come back to TSW.
